Nice work, Willow. The HDR (highdynamic range) is very effective here along with the b&w. Photoshop CS has HDR conversion. How does photomatix pro differ and what is tone mapping?

thx fmoore...with tone mapping you can work with the white and black points as well as luminosity- strength- color saturation. all this combined makes for 1 great looking photo.....
here is a link to the photomatix web site. http://www.hdrsoft.com/images/grandcanal/tm.html |

Great shot.
Is the IR filter software or hardware? |

I like the image it is very well done!
Photomatrix is also a lot easier to use than the hdr built into PC CS2. Actually coverting to HDR is not so difficult :-) Getting something back out of the HDR format that is actually viewable and printable is where it gets trickey. Tone mapping is a way of fitting something with a huge dynamic range into a something like a jpg which cannot hold that range. While still maintaining the extended appearance. Someday the display range in monitors and printers may catch up with the capabilities of the HDR format :| |

It looks like Photomatix requires RAW files. Is that correct? The best I can do with the fz5 is tiff. Would that be sufficient? How about normal jpg? Also, does Photomatix Pro include the Tone Mapping software which apparently is sold seperately as well?
Finally, in the shot below that Willow gave the link to above and which really knocks me out, was HDR applied or only Tone Mapping? ![]() |

I can say that a friend told me to shoot and save as a tiff file for better results with printing. And you can use jpg,TiFF or RAW....Iam still experimenting with it.. Sun, the IR effect is a plugin that I got some where but I cant remember where :? thx too all for looking :G BTW here is 1 with out the IR |

Wow willow, thanks for showing this man. The difference in the dynamic range in the CS2 shots and the photomatrix PRO ones are insane! I haven't really experimented with HDR in CS2 yet. I think I might try that before I think about buying this. :-)

Allow my ignorance; but can you please tell me the way you shot this one? Have you used any filter, lens, program etc.? (Same as above?) |
