Clean up is there to recover writting speed whenever there has been a lot of deleting and ect. It is simlar to a defragmation on a hard disk. To be sure the camera should not "time out" during this process? Once the FAT or file allocation table is erased the disk would require a low level format to be usable. Similar to that of a hard disk on a reqular computer. Wth a 1G disk you can recover a sizable amount of storage with this command. This camera shut down while it was working! It IS A SOFTWARE BUG THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY PANASONIC.
I will try and send the disk somewhere for service?? Don't know where? |

interesting... there's no such command for the FZ20, and i've seen no degradation in memory card performance without it. i wonder why Panasonic felt it necessary to add that "feature" to the FZ30?

Myself, I think the command is there for the higher MP cameras that are more likely to use larger capacity storage cards. In other words if you already have some photos you want to save you could clean up your remaining space.
The other option, which is maybe better, is to have smaller memory cards and simply reformat ect...?? I like a 1G card so I do not have to monkey with changing. |

I'm guessing he started the Cleanup function with a nearly drained battery, not that the camera just went into sleep mode. The camera probably isn't smart enough to figure out if it has enough power left in the battery to do a cleanup function on a 1 gig card.

Im a member of another forum www.aximsite.com we all have dell Axim ppc.
Anyway how this pertains is that the Axims have a tendency to tank a SDcard at a moments notice so there is info there on recovering the SD cards. I dont think you need to be a member to search the forum try "Recover SD card" maybe youll have to add "data" to the search. If I get a chance later I can look for you I wanted to let you know now at least where to look. I personally havent had the experience for the Axims it depends on the manufacturer of the card. Lots of luck |

It's comparable to shutting off a device during its firmware update.
File it under "experience". ![]() |

Is there a way to shut off the power save function on the FZ30?
I had a Fuji MX2900 that allowed you to shut that option off. |

NeoDon, Yes there is a way to turn off the power save feature on the FZ30, it's under the setup menu under power save, just turn it off ! Refer to page 23 of your manual for more info. Jim
