I caught these two spiders out today within 10 feet of each other and I've never seen one before. Idon't think they aren't poisonous but they sure look mean. The first one was a good 3 1/2 inches long.

Those are beautiful shots! The spider is a Black-and-yellow Argiope (Argiope aurantia)

Thanks, They could havebeen sharper but I didn't have my tripod or monopod with me and the wind was blowing 20-25mph.. I always run into something like this when I'm unprepaired.

What a nice catch, for both.

Thanks Tony & Jerry.

Tony, Vaiboy said it was a Black & Yellow Argiope spider but I haven't looked it up myself. I just know it was a BIG, MEAN LOOKING spider. I couldn't believe I had never seen one and then saw two at once real close together.

Jerry, Good to hear from you. I've been sick for a while and have just started posting in the last couple of weeks.

Nice shots. When I was a kid we used to play with these guys as there were all over in the fields around the neighborhood. I don't see them too often in the city though, only their not near as pretty relatives.

I left you a reply by my wet mantid picture.

Nice shots Don. Great backgrounds to make us concentrate on the spider and web.

Nice shots Don, they sure are pretty spiders. We have a lot of spiders coming out now that we call Halloween spiders and they grow quite large by Halloween.

Nice captures Don, they look big and nasty.
