I have a FZ 20 and would like to take some action shots. The built in flash is way to whimpy and I wonder if anyone has any experience with indoor sports photography and could advise me what flash to buy.
Thanks Murray |

It took me a while to get good hockey shots, so I understand your situation.
I don't think you are you talking about professional hockey, since they are very well lit and you'll probably be sitting too far for your flash to make a difference. If this is your kids/friends at the neighborhood rink, be careful with the plexiglass or you will have a nice shot of flash reflecting back at you. If at all possible, avoid the glass and your shots will be cleaner and sharper. Again, if possible, from the scorers or penalty box, use the boards to steady the camera, and be careful with stray pucks. I've had some close calls. The hardest thing about photographing hockey, IMHO, is predicting the action. Use Burst liberally. My flash is a Nikon SB28, and it works fine for hockey, but I think flash will be the least of your problems. Good luck! |
