My son had an excursion to the zoo, so while waiting for him, I dropped by the nearby reservoir. First time there...and very nice and quite. Walk around the edges to search for insects.
FZ10+Raynox 250, F8, 1/60s, ISO50, 2 diffused flash #1:Harvestman Today, for the first time, I saw the harvestman. I always thought they were tiny fellas with long legs, but boy, was I mistaken....these fellas are huge (relatively speaking). The body is abt 1-1.5cm long, and the legs are spread out very wide. More info can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvestman This fellas lost some legs ![]() #2: It has a spike at the rear. ![]() #3: Say Hi! Not sure what are those white spots? ![]() #4:A portrait ![]() Saw this ant with a very funny shield! Actually saw it only during post processing! #5: ![]() #6: And looks who is disturbing it! Get off me! ![]() Not sure if its dead already though.... #7: And a Roly-poly bug (not a great pic...just for sharing the wierdness of it) ![]() ![]() #8:JS with prey ![]() #9: ![]() |

Congratulations Tchuanye, I missed your (and Seemolf's) macros/posts which have become rarer these latest weeks.
Never seen an Harvestman with spike on the back, but great work, the 250 is very 'flexible' (with a reversed lens I only caught eyes and part of the mouth, but with the obvious nearly unexistent DOF). Those white particles could either be eggs or parasites. The first shot would have benefitted of some contrast in PP and in eliminating the slight greenish cast from the body, the others are fine. The 'alien' armoured ant is impressive. Very very good Tan, thanks for pleasing our eyes again Narmer |

These are just amazing. The first one we call Grand Daddy Long Legs (though not the exact same markings as this one you have). I have never heard of them being called a Harvestman. I will have to look these up! You discover some truly interesting insects. I need to get out more.

Thanks guys for your kind comments!
Narmer, I guess the green cast came from the reflection from the surrounding grass. Was out of country recently, so no chance to shoot! |

I think we are getting an education herewith your macro photography and unusual bugs Tan. I have never seen the bugs you posted this time except the ant. As far as the pictures are concerned, the bestmacros I've seen around. I especially enjoyed #6. Thanks for sharing
