I was at the park again today, and I saw a really amazing site! Really the law of nature at work.
First, the Lynx was already feeding on this spider...not sure how long....when I notice this little heavy jumper sneaking over, peeking at them. At first, I thought...nah...so small its not going to eat the lynx. Later, it started to approach closer, than stalk it....than "POUNCE!" in a blink of an eye, it grabbed the lynx at the middle and ended up suspended with its safety line. The lynx meal was thrown aside of course. The jumper stayed at that position for quite sometime, I guess to let the venom sink in. Later it started to drag it along to somewhere. Wow, I have seen spider eating spider before, but not 3 in a row....so seems like Heavy Jumer>Lynx>some unknown spider... thats the law of nature at work! I am posting the sequence as I saw it, and both taken with FZ10+6T+Sigma CU and A610+reverse lens, + my Achiever 828 with taped on Stofen. All at F8, ISO 50 various speeds APOLOGIES if its too long winded..... And APOLOGES that its not ALL from Panasonic camera shots as some are from Canon, but I thought to share it here ..... #1: First the Lynx and its meal...eating away peacefully....(FZ10) 1/125s ![]() #2: Another view (FZ10) 1/80s ![]() #3: Spotted! Look at the relative size of the JS and the Lynx! wow, a spider thriller!
Fantastic series - congratulation! Amazing that you can shoot such a series with two cameras without disturbing the actors! |

Well, thats why if you see the sequence, its FZ10 first (further working distance) and when it settle down with the meal, swap to reverse lens set up.... |

Incredible! You exceeded yourself this time, tchuanye.
I hope I will be able to shoot my favorite spiders (which are of course the jumping spiders)again soon, as it has finally become spring here. I'm curious about how my new D7D (aka Maxxum 7D aka alpha 7D)will perform. The Minolta 100-300 (which I will hopefully be able to purchase, as it has become rare since Minolta stopped theproduction) and my DCR-250 could be a good combination. |

I agree with Stoney79 and Hiroshi.
When I first saw the series in the other forum I remained with my mouth open. That's what I was talking about the other time: the "particular situation". Shooting and light is perfect as always but the whole story behind it and the precision with which you have captured it makes this post/photoshard to repeat, also for yourself (you'd need hours of hunt...). Great also the way you have developed the photographic session, with the FZ10 + 4,5 diopters first and the more powerful reversed 50mm (which is perfect on your Canon A610 with 4x zoom: the same lens on the FZ10 would be too powerful at 7-12x and would vignette at lower zoom ranges). An unforgettable series. Just read a book on macro by John Shaw. Tchuanye you rule ! Narmer PS If I was you I would think about selling it to some review. |
