LC55 Help Needed

Hi Everyone - I got out yesterday to a botanical park and had a go snapping the camelias with the LC55. I am rather disappointe with the results as I thought they would be a lot sharper. I have not done any pp so that advice can be given on the originals.

It was a fairly cloudy/grey afternoon and at times I was battling against the wind and the fading light. But in all shots I used the tripod and self timer to try and get the best images possible. I was positioned around 15cm from the flowers (sometimes closer) and did use a fair bit of zoom - could this be the problem??

All thoughts, ideas, advice and comments welcome.

well Dyane, the photos look really sharp to me. #2 need some more light... but it is sharp.

For no pp photos, they look really great to me. Strong vivid colors and great detail... i dont know what were you expecting... maybe you have your screen out of focus :P

Hi Rui - thanks for looking and commenting, it helps a lot to have "other eyes" looking at my photos. I have to admit that I do need to get my eyes re-tested ....... so this could be part of the problem.

And once again the photos seem sharper here than when they appear on my screen full size.

Forgot to say - you will love the FZ40 when it arrives. This is what I used to take these shots with.

Diane, I think these look pretty good! Any softness must be due to poor lighting. I suggest you try again on a sunny day for a real test. You've posted fantastic images using the Raynox 250 so I'm sure you are not at fault! I'm surprised to hear that you were able to focus at 15cm....usually I'm about 30-50cm away and zoom in. I have trouble focusing when I'm closer.....

Those photos lack light and could be helped considerably with some post processing. But I am not going to do that, as it is clear to me that folks don't like me to do that. And I really do not want to go "against the grain" and even subtly offend folks.

Dyane – I think they look nice. As far as not quite as good as you wanted, I think you answered your own question.

Dyane, these are all lovely, especially #2. I am amazed that your pinks have turned out as it seems this is the most difficult colour to capture correctly on my FZ35. As Saly says, the focus is better 12-18" away and zooming in. Cheers Lyn

I couldn't see the blurring you mentioned.
Maybe you can enhance the iq by a little pp, but it isn't necessary.
I would be glad to get such wonderful shots you show us here in this forum.
My favorite is #4.

Hi Everyone - and thank you all so much for your comments.

To be honnest I could have been further away than 15cm for some of the shots - I'm not too good on guaging distances. So forgive me as this info is incorrect.

Sarah - I dont mind if you do any pp changes and repost them. I am absolutely not an expert on photoshop, so any help is always accepted with pleasure.

Thanks once again for your support and super comments. You are a super, smashing great, lovely bunch of people.

Next time I will try and get out on a sunny wind free day and see what I can come up with.
