Spotted a thread on dpreview by Minh that stated a n annoucement by Panasonic on 21st June. That backs up the other post by twl early over the link that he posted yesterday regards the L1 being announced on that day.

Or possibly something else? The FZ30 is at its lowest online price today at £360 (UD$666) but still £500 (US$925) at Jessops (where else). Jessops only stock the silver model now on backorder and B&H list the black FZ30 as discontinued. Could be Panasonic will announce an FZ30 replacement?

It's probably the L1 DSLR announcement. I don't think Panasonic would put up a website countdown just for an FZ30+ model. Only time will tell, eh?

And I will agree with the above. There is no hoopla (now)re the FZ30. So I believe it has to be the L1.

We could be in for a real suprise - the release of the final specs and pricing for the L1 but may be also the FZ40 and LX2. This way they get to provide something for all of their current and future Lumix users. We all know that the FZ30 and LX1 have been discontinued so why not release the FZ40 and LX2 with all fo eth fanfare and media attention that a release with the L1 will generate ?

Yup -- L1 announcement only, as far as I can see. But that's still fine with me; I am mighty intrigued by this camera. I don't see any pricing info on the Panasonic (Japan) website but admittedly a) I don't speak Japanese (I ran the L1 website through Babelfish) and b) I only spent a few minutes on it as I've got to get ready to leave for work...

250,000 yen = $2416.13 Canadian, $2170.94 US as of this morning's exchange rate.
Ahem. If that price of 250,000 yen is correct I will be keeping my beloved FZ20 for quite a while then, and will likely add a Nikon D50 or D70 to my arsenal next Spring sometime, to satisfy that pesky little DSLR itch that just won't go away. HarjTT wrote: Quote:

my progression was FZ20>FZ30>Nikon D50 and I'm about to get the Nikon D200. Seeing this price announcement from Panny makes me feel like I made the right decision to jump to Nikon for dSLR. I still love my FZ's but don't see jumping on the L-wagon.

With the L1 pricing (apparently) so much higher than I thought it would be, I would not be at all surprised if Panasonic does have an FZ30+ or FZ40 in the works. Somehow I don't see them abandoning the upper end of the bridge camera market. The FZ7 is a great camera but there would be an huge gap between it and the L1. I don't think Panasonic will let a gap of that kind go unfilled. Just a thought...
