I just checked dpreview's preview on the LX1 http://www.dpreview.com/news/0507/05072003panasonic_lx1.asp when I noticed that the sensor size is quoted a 1/1.65" (2/3) 8.4MP compared to the FZ30's 1/1.8" CCD 8MP CCD. Now from what I've read from panasonic's sensor documenation the largest CCD that they were making in 2004 for digicam's was 1/1.8". Is this 1/1.65 CCD made by Pana or may be the Sony 2/3CCD that's widely in use ? I know there is just a few mm difference between the two CCD's but I'm just curious why a slightly larger CCD would go into the smaller cam.

The LX1 sensor actually has a native 16:9 ratio. So it is wider than the FZ30's 1/1.8" sensor. It is probably also not as tall as an FZ30 sensor is. One needs to compare the surface area of the sensor to see which one is really larger.

Enjoy life!
