Hi Narmer,

Been looking for opportunity to shoot this weekend, but did not have much chance. Manage to shoot 2 subjects, a Long legged fly and a GH woth my usual bounce flash set up and another with my on board flash direct. As the on board flash is kind of harsh, I had to increase the shutter speed. Also I PS all the shots as I would do for any of my shots. I shall leave the conclusions to you. Also posted other shots taken with bounce flash.

Tchuanye, Your insect pictures are so outstanding! They inspire me to try harder to get somewhere near that kind of results. Jim

#3: outstanding, unreachable, off earth, ....
I guess the photographer and the object need some kind of religion/zen for these results.

Dear Tchuanye

thank you very much for taking these test these pics.

About the differences between the 2 Onboard Flash vs External bounced one, some may find them very slight, not outstanding.
Yet the bounced flash provides a more natural look, less evident light spots on the points of reflection and I am sure this can be even more evident with very fine textures of insects parts (butterflies wings, or insects' eyes cells) or withhighly reflective bodies (coleoptera).

Also the second images looks more innatural for its higher contrast (I suppose you made same PP).

So the effect of built ine flash in macros (where its power is generally reduced in camera) is not so bad as it is in general indoor low light shots, but nonetheless the difference are evident and,for the exigent / "trained eye", really determining.

BTW your shotsare brilliant as is your trend

I am using the Panasonic FL-28....nothing special abt it except that I got it cheap 2nd hand and its small......small enough to fit my camera pouch which i am using.
