Rokky, yes these photo's don't have that extra sparkle... but you can see why, overcast sky, no shadows.... so it's the normal result that everyone will get without resorting to post processing with photoshop or the likes.

Great whale shot, brings back memories of four years ago when I went out to the Straits of Juan de Fuca on a afternoon trip from Victoria... what a great trip and memories of the whales.

It was a dull day all right. I have had some success fixing up the photos after the fact. I added the photo info below.

A lot of people might hate me for writing this, but the Auto modes on most of the cameras are pretty lame (iA, landscape or night landscape whatever)

If you want some good results, I would recommend you Aperture (A) or Shutter (S) priority modes. Since most of your pictures here are landscapes and a relatively deeper DOF, I would recommend you try these settings in Aperture priority mode

Aperture: F2.8 to f5.6 (wherever the picture starts to look well exposed i.e. not over)
ISO: 80-200 (NOT more than that)
Focus Area: Large (to do this, press the Focus button and use the jog dial to enlarge the area)
Exposure: -1 to 0 anything that looks good on screen.


You can get even better with the results if you switch to complete manual (M) and stick to the shutter of around 1/40 to 1/125 seconds in addition to the above settings
