Id say they are no worse than anything else in this camera 'class'. Take a look at an iso400 shot here:

I don't see the noise you are referring to in the link. I do notice a lot of ISO400 noise with my FZ5, not sure if the FZ5 is worse than others or not. I always run my ISO400 shots through neat image and they clean right up.

oops internet sarcasm doesnt work well does it... my point was there isnt much noise in that shot, yet the FZ5 constantly gets panned for it in reviews/comments, yet i doubt similar models (s2, h1, p850 etc) can do much better

I believe that any dSLR , the Canon S-2, and the Sony H-1 could do better, with LESS noise.

It was a real toss-up for me between the H1, S2, and FZ5. I chose the FZ5 because the reviews said good things about the FZ5'sOIS, the focus speed, and the excellent battery. I don't like the noise I see in my night pictures at ISO400, but I personally have no camera to compare this to.

you should never shoot night photos at high ISO's anyways... tripod + longer exposure.. =)

if your subject isnt moving then long exposure + tripod is the best... obviously this reporter guy moved quite a bit, and i was about 30 feet away from him, so i needed a faster shutter speed - which meant using high iso.
I didnt have tripod cos I was going the pub after the event, I was quite lucky the guy stayed relatively still in between his takes, I guess he was a pro ![]() |
