The fly on this page (a bit further down, a Swedish panasonic thread) looks great to me, shot with the Raynox 250...

The dof and ease of use make the +3 diopter mcon40 (vs the +8 diopter dcr250) the better choice, IMO.

Fred
I get confused over this...I know the 250 is very powerful and almost impossible for me to use but the 150 seems much easier, even though I am bad at macros. What is the diopter of the dcr-150.. I know it says 1.5 power but what lens does that compare with? |

Gene - The 150 is +4 diopter. Thus it will focus at about 10" from the subject whereas the +8 250 focuses at about 5". The focus distance in meters is equal to the inverse of the diopter; ie, F=1/d. I don't know what the 1.5 power means.

Thanks Fred and then that makes the 150 about like that Canon 250D, I think I read somewhere it was a 4 diopter but maybe I misunderstood.

Yes, the canon 250d (52mm and 58mm) is also a 4 diopter as is minolta #2 (49mm and 55mm). Both of these can be used throughout the zoom. The raynox 150 and 250 are both 43mm* resulting in vignetting below 3-4x zoom.
*The raynoxcome with a snap-on-adapter that receives the 43mm threads and fits any diamter 52mm-67mm. |
