take a look at the roof of the new Panasonic DMC FZ 50
looking at the hotshoe, does that pinout array look familiar Im thinking its the same as Olympus FL 36 and 50 flashes a suspicion assisted by the name FL 360 and FL 500 and many would be aware of the relationship with Olympus and Panasonic does anyone know if Olympus flashes have TTL functionality on the new FZ50 ? |

As far as I know the Oly falshes should work with the new Pana's - the FZ50 and L1and the new Pana flash is basically the FL50. The hot shoes looks identical to Olympuses and personally it makes sense to share the common camera parts like the hot shoe.

I'm considering the FZ50. I own an Olympus FL40 flash which has worked great withan Oly C3000zand the possibility of using it with the FZ50 may be the dealmaker for me. Does anyone have definite information about using that combo? Thanks in advance.

Hi Ed
Take a look at the FZ50 accessories: http://panasonic.co.jp/pavc/global/l...cessories.html At the bottom you'll see the flash guns - theyre basically rebadged FL36 and FL50 flashes so I can't see why your FL40 will not work with the FZ50. What I didn't know until today is that the OLy flashguns and possibly, Canon/Nikon guns are manufactured by Pany so that explains quiet a few things. Cheers HarjTT :O |

HarjTT and Ed
I have made a formal enquiry with Panasonic, but havnt as yet had a reply, I cant say Im expecting one, but I will post it here should it eventuate. Having said that, it does seem logical, with the technical relationship between Oly and Pana, and given the identical pinout footprint, and the visual similarity of the flashes from both marques, it seems a better than even bet... |

Looking at the range, all appear to have the same pinout
DMC FZ 50 DMC L1 DMC LC1 I guess the same thing works in reverse, if you have a Panasonic TTL flash it should work on an Olympus TTL rig, maybe they are cheaper ? |
