When I had to get my FZ20 repaired under warranty (a couple of years ago now), Panasonic had it for 4 months...

They reckoned it was down to a shortage of suitably trained repair staff...

In the UK (and I assume other countries) it is very very common for tech items to be repaired by a 3rd party repairer, this goes for many things from computers to mobile phones to your hot water boiler in your house.

Its all farmed out, obviously this is cheaper for them as it provides them with considerably lower overheads.... but yeah service is normally shocking !!!

We recently had a new ducted heating and cooling system installed ($16000+) — it took from mid-November to the end of December to get the installation to the point where it could be switched on, a further 3 weeks for the technician to turn up and commission it and then an extra fortnight for another techie to come and fix the bodges made by the installers...

By the time it was working right, summer was almost over.

Makes me think I'm in the wrong game — I mostly get computer repairs out the door the same day (don't do many now, tho' — too bleedin' old.)

Try the Consumer Direct website:

I couldn't see anything specific about your situation, but there is a phoneline perhaps you could try to see what they say.
