Praying Mantis

Spotted some suspicious movement under a sunlit leaf..


Turned the leaf up to see what it was and found this fellow staring at me..


Knowing I was chasing him, he quickly tried to escape..


went up a perch to see if I was still chasing him..


even made a tight-rope walk, rather run, away frome me..


but couldn't escape as the window was closed and so I had a chance to take a full picture of his contours in good contrasting background!

That is funny Joe the one I shot with the FZ100 also had a missing leg?

I wonder if they can reproduce a leg if they lose one?

Yes - legs can regenerate if broken, but only in the molting process. These limbs that
regenerate are always smaller than they were originally. A full grown adult that
no longer molts no longer possess the ability to regenerate limbs. The front"raptorial" limbs do not regenerate if broken.

Thank you all for viewing and your comments. I am glad you all liked these. Jim, these were taken with FZ28 on macro mode with spot focus. No additional lens or filter.

These are wonderful pictures. Wish my FZ28 would do that well. Of course, all the people here posting their great pictures are good with their cameras and know how
to get the best from them, that sure helps. Thanks for posting what mode you used.
