Nope. The only way that's practical that I would know if is trying to use the A/V cables to an adapter like I linked to in my previous post here:

But, quality is likely to be poor, and you'd have restrictions on recording time and no control over the camera other than using the physical controls on it.

You'd be better off finding a different camera that allows more control over USB, compared to trying to use your FZ40 for that kind of thing.

That's sad news

I use an older Canon camera (paid $50 on eBay) to do time-lapse etc. There's a great firmware called CHDK which lets you control all aspects of the Canon point-and-shoot cameras so you can trigger via USB, you can do time-lapse, you can even sense motion to capture lightning.

Shame there's nothing like it for Panasonic

BTW, my reason for buying it was to try KAP - kite aerial photography. I have a rig that rotates the camera and fires it via USB using some very simple electronics. Going to the beach tomorrow, hope to fly it if there's some wind.

That's bad..... I'll see if I get something worked out the 'non official' way
