Ive been checking out camera offerings in detail, and attempting to match them to my requirements or sorting out workarounds. Then this horrible thought came to me, Ive been fortunate to be using a camera with a 4 x 3 frame, and this fits perfectly when downsized from 3072 x 2304 to 800 x 600.

Now remarkably, Ive been reading how users of expensive DSLR's, with equally expensive and scrutinised lenses have been sizing images for the net. And I cant believe this but they just correct the image size to 800 x 600 @ 72 dpi.

So after all that effort for 'distortion' free images, they stretch the image from the 3 x 2 aspect ratio to 4 x 3, when the only sensible way to do this is to crop and resize. Not that the software tools make that easy or convenient.

So I ask you, have I somehow stupidly got this wrong, or is this what happens?

I feel you are 100% correct......I came to the same conclusion when I got the D50 I would use an image from it for a desktop and some strange things happen to the Photo when set as a background.

But it is not hard to crop to a different ratio....PS does it in one click as does NX...And I would imagine most other editors will also do that very easily.
