Dpreview has an article on both Leica D's (14-50 and 25mm f1.4) becoming available for sale:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0609/06...oniclenses.asp

No indication on pricing as of yet.

Some more shots of the L1 but this time with the 25mm f1.4 summilux.

According to Pana's lens map - the 25mm Summilux wasn't supposed to be due till 2007. Now does this mean that we may see one of the 14-150 or 50-150 OIS based zooms before 2007 ?

Nope, as the L1 is still not here in the UK. Originally told early August by the local Pana and one of the major Pana/Leica photographic stores here in the UK then that didn;t happen and the date was set for 1st week Sept for UK release. I even had an e-mail from Panasonic UK stating that but then I saw that the Oly E1 was on a fire sale price with the 14-45 kit lens and as there was still no UK price for the L1+Leica D, I decided to get the E1 for now - the way I see it I couldn't go wrong.

I'm happy with the E1 - ergonomics are superb, build and IQ is excellent esp with the 14-54 but I still hanker after the L1 and that lens. I'm itching to see how good the Leica D and the E1 work together and once there's a price for the lens only and as long as its reasonable I'll be getting one.

Now a question on primes - I had thought that the whole advantage of a prime lens was that it gave you small, light lenses with fast apertures. I look at the 50mm macro F2 and that looks the right size but from the 25mm Summilux is a big beast - nearly as large as the Leica D and its heavier. Does anyone know why that would be the case ?

Cheers

Harj

the 14-150 is an ideal walkabout lens.. any idea on the pricing ? The OIS means its not going to be cheap :?

Hi Sharp

No news on the pricing for the 14-150mm yet - but the 14-50 Leica D is on sale in Japan for $750USD. Not sure about the 25mm f1.4 either but I'm expecting that to be a wee bit expensive as well (fingers crossed its not :roll.

Regards the 14-150 - its an ideal walkabout but I'd rather it was f2.8-3.5 + OIS as the current aperture just seems to slow. Now if they had to compromise teh focal range to 14-100 f2.8 + OIS I'd be more than happy.

Cheers
