Greetings:

I am looking at an assignment that I have to do digitaly.
I woiuld like to purchase the Leica M8 but I realy do not have that kind of money.
So I was thinking, maby the Panasonic might be the ticket.
But before I go out and spend the money on the Panasonic, I need to pose this question.

How quiet is the Panasonic when compaired to a Leica MP?
Or, would I be better off investing in the Leica M8 digital?

My assignment will a year long one. I have beed asked to tail a corp executive from time to time and candidly photograph him durring many of his meetings. The one stipulation is that I must not be noticed durring these meetings. IE: Very Very Quiet.
I have done this in the past shooting film and using my Leica MP with great success, but this company wants digital for the fast turnaround.

any dSLR has an amount of noise because of the moving mirror
probably the quietest dSLR is Olympus E1
the M8 is definately quieter, but yes quite expensive

theres Epson's RD-1 as a cheaper option if you have Leica M lenses
woulldnt you need telephoto lens often ?

I just spent some time at the Camera shop and I looked at the Panasonic, the Leica M8, and the Epson.
The Epson is almost at loud at the Panasonic, but Leica M8 was just as whisper quiet as my MP.
So yes I broke down and spent the $5800.00 on the Body.
When I tested in the Camera shop I had my MP with my Noctilux.
This Leica M8 had no problems with the lens.
I know I will make back the investment, but it will be over time.
Thanks for the advice.
