Amazon is now selling the G1 for $673. This is the lowest price I've seen on Amazon so far. The question is, is there something new coming up (either from Panasonic or Olympus), which is already reflecting on the price drop or this is just a temporary supply and demand situation? Any guesses?

It's now $669 on Amazon. It think there are a few things going on here:

1) There is a tradiitonal drop in price for any camera after being on the market a few months. Although Amazon's price seems lower than the other legit offers. Perhaps the G1 isn't selling as well as most expect. Somehow, although all camera sales may be down due to the economy, I suspect that G1 sales are comparatively good.

2) Panasonic had indicated that another version of the G1 - that shoots HD video - would be coming out in 2009. For those who don't care about video capability in DSLRs or near-DSLRs like the G1 (myself included) this could be a great opportunity.

The G1 has dropped to the equivalent of under $500 USD in Japan, including the 14-45mm kit lens. (about $485)

Ok, I bought the G1 with the two lens kit (14-45mm & 45-200mm)

It cost the equivalent of about $615 USD in Japan.

That's a bargain. Amazon has the one-lens kit for $640. They do not have the two-lens kit.

You can also find the G1 one lens kit in Japan for around $450 USD.

Ok, the menu is only in Japanese(not able to change to English), but that is a small problem given the very cheap price!!
