Hi, Charli

My understanding is that Leica does the designs and supervises the manufacturing by Panasonic, presumably by having Leica engineers at the plant in Japan. The Leica 14-50mm has Panasonic's name on the lens barrelbut Leica's name on the front of the lens.

Regardless of what you call it, it is a jewel of a lens and after using it I personally consider it worthy of the Leica name, and am happy it wasn't manufactured in Germany since then it would likely cost $3K USD.

Ted
Are you using the OLY 150mm kit lens and is it a keeper?

I am considering one as the 14-45 seems to be prretty good for my uses

I want the 25mm PanLeica but nothing has come up yet

Hi, Tom

If you mean a 40-150mm Oly zoom, there are two of them. One, an f/4-5.6, was included with a 2-lens kit and I didn't buy that kit when I got the E-500. The other, an f/3.5-4.5, was sold separately and I do have that one. It is a good lens and was fine for me when I lived in northern Arizonawith outdoorlight at 6,000 footcandles - but not fast enough for the mostly interior photography I now do in Maryland. So I had to get the 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 (and what I really need is that 35-100mm f/2 that sells for more than 2 large...). At this pointI don't use the 40-150mm much, but keep it around in cases where I need a 300mm-equivalent lens.

OK, well needless to say I am still having a blast with the camera. Bought the SDHC 4 gig this week at the new sites owner's place of biz .
$53 with card reader

When I use burst mode and bracketing it really eats up the card, but it is a fast machine and you know the lens does a credible job. I miss ISO but will learn to make it work for me.

Hope you got the letter I sent by now

See yah

I did a google on the L1 and came up with DMC L1K. What is the ''K'' designation? Does it have anything to do with a firmware upgrade; I believe I saw a version 2.0.

Also I read todaythe L1 is selling fairly well.

Edit: I just now saw the other link (close by) so it answered my question.

Hi Andrew

The "K" just stands for black - I know you wokred that out but its just incase a newcomer was reading the thread. A friend of mine at work just ordered an L1 and got worried that he had ordered an older version when he saw a DMC L1K.

Cheers

Yes, I thought of writing as well

I was online when it came on.... since there is no "dumb" question if asked in an honest manner.

Example:

I noticed some people are bidding on the LC-1 Panasonic on eBay thinking it was the L1, one of the consequences of believing everthing is a deal on eBay

Is it appropriate to email that person and tell them it is not a deal? I don't as it is a store. might make an interesting thread..... "Ethic's on eBay"
Oh please....
