these are kokanee. unfortunately for me, the stream was closed to fishing. the water was was only 8-12 inches deep, and not moving terribly fast. the stream was full of these fish... i remember once, years ago, during a visit with the family, my stepson actually caught one with his bare hands! tasty though they are, i'm glad they're protected... they'd be caught to extinction in no time otherwise. besides, they have enough to contend with avoiding the ospreys that seem to be all over the place up there... :G
