Here is a simple ready-to-go alternative to the fx01 pvc adapter shown here.

It's a 2" to 1.5" reducing bushing. I picked up one at Home Depot for $1.50. Ace Hardware has it on its web site here and presumably is available at their stores.

It's soft rubber and is fairly flexible. A 49mm step ring or filter will fit easily into the 2" diameter end. The 1.5" diameter end fits over the extended fx01 lens.

Here it is with a 49-52mm step up ring inserted in the front .

And handheld over the fx01 extended lens

Ingenious Fred,

I see the price of this gem of a camera going down and if I don't act fast may lose out like some did over the FZ1v2.

Do you still need to hold this when shooting or is the fit snug enough to hold on its own?

It doe not fit snug over the extended lens, which, IMO, is a good thing. The lens extension housing is not designed for load bearing. Futhermore, there is some intermediate extension/retraction as zoom is applied and having a tight fit would interfere with that. So, you really need a tube adapter that allows freedom of movement.

The rigid pvc adapter descibed at http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1033&message=19368810 can be further modified to allow for attachment to the fx01 as shown below. Follow through the threadat this link for more info.

The alternative soft rubber bushing adapter can't be attached to the fx01 in this way and is pretty much restricted to handheld operation. I have found that handheld works best, anyway. The aperatus can be quickly removed for non add-on shooting and it's less cumbersome to keep in your pocket. I prefer the rigid pvc over the flexible rubber. The advantage to the rubber bushing is that it's ready to go out of the box.
