I send an email to someone who works for Leica, regarding any info he could provide regarding the possible differences between the FZ50 and the yet to be released V-Lux-1. This is his response. Jim

"It is true that Panasonic does have a similar model. The 2 cameras not only look slightly different, but the basic settings in the firmware of the cameras are different. The option in the "Image Settings" of the camera is clearly different and adapted to the needs of the Leica customer. The true to life reproduction of skin tones and realistioc colors are the main attention-getter.
The V Lux 1 will be packaged with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4, and a 512MB SD memory card. The warranty is 2 years. You will have to check with Panasonic to see how their camera is packaged."

That looks good Jim. Bundled with PE4 and a 512 MB SD card as well! Sounds expensive

Fred, I think the rumor has it that it will go for about $800. Jim

sorry to be the dampener but
'basic settings' would be saturation / contrast ?
what about the venus engine ?

I think if we can find out how the venus engine behaved in the D2 the V-Lux would be pretty much the same
