I expected the G7 to have a* long telephoto and just cannot wait any longer for Canon to put one in the G series and have ben researching the FZ50.* A lot of noise about noise and high ISO performance* with it but it is what I expected the G 7 to be .* Any thots about comparative picture quality of the two cameras, G5 and FZ50, in the low ISO settings?* If the picture quality is as good* as the G5 I would be happy with the rest of the features.* I love my G5 and have taken thousands of photos but I miss the long tele and at age 72 starting to feel the need for IS.

I purchased the FZ50 about 4 weeks ago and after taking aapprox. 800 pictures and comparing them to pictures from my FZ30 I returned the FZ50 ! The picture quality was really bad when you did a 100% enlargement. You could see the smearing and water color effect of an over aggresive NR software. I posted several threads regarding what I found, (IMO). Do a search for tiger98 posts and you will find a lot of info from myself and others regarding this. I've posted two links below. Jim

fuggrwe,

It seems like the jump from G5 to FZ30 or FZ50 is really a big change. Have you considered the S3is or the FZ7? Both would seem to be closer to the G5 but still give you the long zoom as well as very good image quality. I don't really know a lot about the G5 so maybe I'm on the wrong path.

Just an idea.
