Jim, Animals/birds do know!! Theytake dust baths to dry excess oil from their skin and feathers.

I do wonder if it's nature's way of helping them to ward off mosquitoes and other biting insects. Right now, honey bees seem to be bothering my horses. I don't know what is attracting them.

Your probably right Jerry, and the excess oil as Manuel pointed out. Regarding the bees and your horses, seems like there is a LOT of bees and wasps this year and they seem to be bothering animals and people! Jim
