Either way; whatever works best for you. Auto focus OR manual focus works the same in Aperture Priority as in any of the other settings.

Auto is easier, but it will tend to focus on the nearest elements; manual can give you more control over exactly where your focus center is located.... For instance if your subject has a lot of depth to it, even with a super high F stop you may need to have your focus center in the 'middle layer' to get everything sharp, so then manual focus will be best.

thanks again for the help and I do understand what you mean and I, too, would have great problems trying to express it inwords. It is also remembering all these factors when one is alone out in the field!!!!
