Nice catch. The sun also looks like it is travelling to the right, leaving a thick trail of smoke!

I have read that it is not advisable to photograph the sun when it is this bright, especiallywith digital cameras. Is that true? Can someone clarify please?

i've heard some folks say you can damage the sensor by shooting straight into the sun, but i've taken many sunset shots like this and never had a problem. of course, it might be different if i shot the midday sun rather than late in the day when the sun's going down...
