My hubby thinks it's a siskin, but it certainly doesn't look much like the one in my bird book. Can any of you bird lovers help?

Sorry, Photobucket was down for a while this morning. In case it goes down again, I'll do the pic as an attachment.

Now, I could be wrong, but it looks very much like a Goldfinch. Maybe someone else can give a positive ID.

I don't have a bird book for Scotland but it looks like a goldfinch to me also.

I agree, looks very similar to one of our goldfinches but being it's in Scotland I'm not sure that is what it is.

I'm no birdexpert but itlooks to me like a Greenfinch. The Siskin is also a finch but quite small, and his head is not as flat as the one on this photo.

Thanks for all the help guys. I knew it wasn't a green finch as a few years back some of them nested in what was once an outlet for a gas fire in our house.

I googled goldfinch and looking at the pics on one of the sites, I've established that the one I saw was a juvenile and that's why it didn't have the distinctive red area on its face.

Yes you are right, it's not a Greenfinch, but rather a Female Lesser Goldfinch because of the white patch on it's wing.
