On the flight back to the US, we left Beijing, China late in the afternoon and 'raced' into the approaching nightfall -- towards the previous day. At one point in the flight, raising the drawn window shade (due to everyone sleeping), it was noticed we were at the rising sun's dawn breaking onto the local terrain we were over flying...

I've been searching aerial views via Google Earth to try & determine the path we were flying that resulted in these views. The Great Circle route flown between PEK & LAX is usually somewhat over Kamchatka Penisula (Russia), the Bering Sea/Straits and SW Alaska and our time into the 12-hour flight would have put us in this vicinity as well as the terrain features would also seem to indicate.

I haven't been able to identify any specific features, as yet, but am hopeful that I will be due to the rather unique topographical features in some of the images... Anyone out there recognize any points?

This image turned out pretty good with an apparent bokeh for the distant mountain range... I might just have to have a good-sized print made of this one.

Somewhat distinct mountain if I can locate it, I should be able to use Google Earth to map out the other distinct topography imaged...

Anyone recognize this town - possibly in SW Alaska...
