The frog was sitting like this a lot today, and I kept thinking "I hope he's not waiting for the kinglet to take a drink."

Love it. Those eyes. I like the way they are reflected, gives the shot symmetry.

Neat shot. For a moment I thought it was a croc, then realised what it was. Good job.

Thanks for looking and commenting Pete, Ted, Mark, Raghu, Rafael and Annie. And Raghu, your comment means the shot worked like I wanted. Except, being in America, I thought it looked like an alligator sitting there.

This was with the camera set on macro and full zoom from a couple feet away. For some reason the book says minimum range at full zoom on macro is less then intermediate zoom ranges so I was testing.

TERRIFIC photo, happy !!!
Your work continues to improve... awsome.
Focus, exposure, composition all great. Plus, most importantly, an interesting picture.
Surprised you were able to focus from as close as 2ft. on full zoom. Mostly, I have not been able to get much closer than 6ft or so on full zoom (420mm equivalent on the FZ50) ... but I find it varies somewhat.
Please keep posting.
Robin.

Thanks Robin. Maybe I was a meter away. The book says two meters at 11X magnification and one meter at 12X. I went to recreate the shot after I read your post as I was curious. I had yardstick in hand, but you know, if you poke a yardstick at a frog they go straight to the bottom of the pond, so results were inconclusive.

He is a fair sized frog. That rock is 10.5 inches. He has been a frog probably since fall of 2005, and will probably be moved out of our backyard pond this year as he is getting large enough to start eating the birds and fish. Click on picture below to see him large.
