Based on the color, this is a young gull. So I don't think he will be disappointed for it not hatching. More likely he will be disappointed that it does not squeek and make other noises to annoy his parents.

One of the smaller Ring-billed Gulls managed to pick it up before the Herring Gull got involved, but he could not hang on to it. That would have been a better shot. I was too busy picking up the jaw that I dropped to take that picture though.

I didn't realize they could ope their beaks that wide. Nice capture. Very unusual shot.

First off, thanks all for looking and commenting. Glad you liked my unusual slice of lake life shots. As far as not seeing a tennis ball and a gull in the same shot; well, my mind never stops. I've been thinking if I wanted to I get get a couple balls, cover them with fish oil, throw them out and start shooting. Probably won't since I got this one for free, but it's a thought.

It`s amazing what birds play about with at times....saw one messing about with a discarded baby`s rattle once :?
The balls and fish oil trick may be worth a shot Steve, knowing how frantic Gulls get if they see activity and think theyre missing something, you may manage to shoot the Seagull version of Wimbledon :-)
