I took these last week from a cruise ship headed back to New Orleans from Cozumel, Mexico. This is in the northern Gulf close to the mouth of the Mississippi River. Oil rigs like this are all over this area.

Lovely photos, Mick. A few years ago, my brother had a shrimp boat and I would go with on occasions. Late evenings were great times to be on the water and watch the sunset. I never had a camera with me, wish I did. Good going.

P.S. I can immagine you had a great time on the cruise.:-)

Thanks, Jerry.

The cruise was good. Of the four nights on board, this was the last. I'm glad I decided to take my camera up top. We saw some dolphins in the distance, but I didn't have my telephoto lens so they just came out as black specks.

Here's the ship we were on, docked in Cozumel.

Wonderful. #2 has of course been done before in numerous ways, but it still works, well captured.

Great shots but.....................

If shot 2 had the rig a bit sharper and more centered in the sun it would like a super stock shot for a annual reportcover or a super corporate calander shot,

ralfinmelb - Thanks. It may have been done before, but never, of course, by me! :-)

BiLL - Thanks, too.
I probably should have had the cam set on continuous shot mode. The rig was not aligned with the sun very long at all. This is also cropped quite a bit, so that is why the rig isn't as clear as one would hope. Of course, there's always Photoshop!

Thanks for viewing, guys!

Thanks, Donna.

I really wish it had been possible to pause the sunset or the ship. It's amazing how fast it all disappeared.

Thanks for looking!
