Greetings All,

I use an FZ5 to take pictures for my articles. It's all outdoor stuff. My questions is what's the difference between 1 or 3-area High Speed autofocus mode?

What are the advantages of one over the other? If I pick 1-area do I pick the area verses 3-area where the camera picks it?

Am I even on the right track?

Thanks for your help.

You are on the right track , if you wish to have control over where the camera focuses you can not use the 3 or 9 pt focus options.

I really am not sure what the advantage of the 3 or 9 pt focus is, I decided it was not a good choice for me.

Like genece said, the three-point is not usually a good choice for me. Sometimes the camera grabs things way off to the side compared to what I think it should when I use it. For action scenes it might help you focus slightly faster by finding a target sooner. You will just have to experiment. What I have found it useful for is soaring/flying past birds that are overhead. Useful there only because if target moving and I am shaking (my normal state) I have better odds of locking on to a target.
