I recently ordered some extra lenses:
  • a Raynox HD6600Pro Wideangle Adaptor; and[/*]
  • an Olympus Tcon-17 Telephoto Adaptor
    [/*]
They arrived recently and I have been playing abit. My post "Life in the slow lane" is all taken with the WA on the FZ30. and my post about Carlton/Fitzroy has a mixture of with and without.

I did also try a couple of comparative shots. Nothing special in the shots, just to show what the WA does. Here are shots with and then without the adaptor to get a feel for the whole shot. I have links to the full size shot after the embedded one for the pixel peepers.

Then I have a 500x500 pixel 100% crop from the bottom left. Without WA on left, with WA on right.

and from more or less in the middle

Now a second set of shots with a different subject

100% crop from the right hand edge

and from the middle

My conclusions are:
1: the raynox is not particularly sharp at the edges
2: the sharpness is a little better in the middle
3: the raynox does lose a little light but not too much (a little less than 1/2 a stop)
4: at web display sizes I am happy with what I have
5: it is worth persevering with

I have yet to print with these, but for where I am on the experience scale, this will do the job I was after. It is more or less what I expected after having looked at

I chose the Raynox mostly on the basis of size and cost. I knew that it was not as good as the pana wide angle but half the price in OZ is still a few bottles of wine.

Hope this helps those considering this WA. Happy to field questions
from those interested.

I have to agree with your conclusions. I have been thinking about a WA lens but haven't made up my mind yet.

I have been agonizing for a while now contemplating a WA lenspurchase. I think I've made-up my mind, the Schneider-Kreuznach, (German made optics)0.7 X 55 mm is a 4 Element, 4 Group, all glass lens. It does not require an adapter since the thread is 55 mm, (the same as my FZ30). It sells for $109.95 USD. Also, Olympus has a 4 element, 4 group 55mm lens. The specs don't say if its an all glass lens.

I've seen some pictures from the German lens and they are very sharp. Actually it'll be nice if some one has different opinion or suggestionto let us know.

Sorry I cannot help. Have not seen anything about that particular lens in any of my travels.
