Managed to find an area where numbers of butterflies were warming up out of the cold wind this morning, only had an hour or so to shoot before they became too active to approach. There were also a few day flying moths around. All shots with my usual setup - fz20, raynox dcr150 and sunpak 36dx flash with bounce card.....

Common blue (male)...

Closer shot showing head detail...

Small day flying moth, no idea which species....

6 Spot burnet resting on a common spotted orchid...

Meadow Brown butterfly, closeup....

Another burnet closeup, this time on an oxeye daisy....

#3 for me. You are getting artistic with the composition of shots here. Very well done.

Thanks Rafael. Apart from shot 1 (where I had to do a slight crop to remove some lens vignetting) the shots are just resized from the originals. Glad you liked them.

Hi Mark

Some fine macro shots - I really liked the closeup in the second shot - well exposed, and nice detail - tack sharp.

Cheers

Super shots as usual Mark. Your macro set-up sure works well. I don't use a flash much but you and some others have convinced me I need to. I am trying to find if there is a flash that will work for both my FZ50 and D50. That would sure be cheaper.

Nice shots. I like the first one best as it gives me a nice view of the butterfly. We have Tailed Blues flitting through the yard but I don't see them rest often.
