Today is the festival of Lord Ganesh in India. The northern parts witness huge, colorful idols of Lord Ganesh worshipped at central places in towns and villages and then taken out in a procession a few days later for immersion in pond, lake, river or sea as is available. However, in southern parts, particularly in Tamil Nadu, small clay idols are more popular - people buy one for each house, and after worship, immerse the idol in their own wells or keep the idol in the gardentodissolve in rain. A scene in the market place..

Most interesting. Thanks for this little bit of culture. Those idols do indeed look like something that would dissolve. Which is good for the idol makers I guess. Ensures a lot of repeat business that way. A couple of nice shots.

Thanks again, Steve. Yes, it is repeat business. Not only that, it is environment friendly too - it is pure clay and no pollution at all (in stark contrast to the plaster of paris, painted idols).
