That's a neat looking bracket. Are you a machinist? I like your air show shots also. Looks like it worked out pretty well for you and looks like it came on the camera except for the color. Great Job!

Thanks! No, I'm not a machinist. I just like to make things and I get a little obsesive about the details...

The sight was a big help. Looking through the viewfinder meant I could only see a small portion of the sky, especially at the long focal lengths needed to fill the frame with the subject. With fast moving airplanes and birds there's not enough time to scan the the sky with a wide angle and then zoom in once you've found the subject.

The RDS doesn't add any magnification, so I could keep both eyes open for a full field of view, leave the lens at the tele end of its range, and still compose the image with some degree of accuracy. That being said, burst mode and a large card help too!
