A nice collection of birds. I rather like the pelican. Next time I post birds I may post a cormorant in that pose since it seems to be popular.

About this water the birds are swimming in/being by: is it fresh or brackish? And if fresh, is it in danger of drying up with this constant below average rainfall?

Thanks Steve, yes the cormorants and anhingas always have that pose to dry out.

The water here is still fresh, Dandenong Creek runs from Mt Dandenong down to the bay and tends to always run, even if it gets down to a trickle. It collects water not only from the Dandenong ranges but also from the suburban runoff of the SE suburbs. At this park the land flattens out and the creek spreads out into a series of billabongs (ox bow loops) and the water people have created a lake to help the water settle before it continues its trip to the bay. The lake has water in it all the time but the billabongs will fill or empty depending on the amount of rain. After the 2 inches over the weekend we had a fair bit as Dandenong Creek had overflowed. So the heron is in an inch of water and the frogs were croaking for all they were worth.

Here is a shot of the creek
