My camera came yesterday and I took it to the lake twice today; once at the crack of (a cloudy) dawn and once in the early afternoon. Nothing fancy, I was just testing settings and getting a feel for it. But these shots did not come out too bad.

I shot a few birds at different times in RAW, then saved as a TIFF file, edited that in Elements 4.0 and saved as a JPEG. The Silkypiks that comes with the camera has some editing ability, but I don't know if it can crop and haven't figured out the noise reduction aspect of it so I will stick with Elements and Neat Image for now.

Great Black-backed Gull

GBBG in flight. That pier in the background is at the end of the beach where I took all my sandpiper pictures.

Goldeneye. Not too bad for ISO 400 I think. Shot as JPEG

Kestrel. Shot at ISO 400 RAW. About 30 minutes prior to above shot and it was not as light out.

Ring-billed Gull

Mallard

Great first shots, Steve. Glad to see you back and knew you wouldn't have any problems with the new camera. Really like the last shot of the mallard.

Impressive IQ from that all-in-one camera. The Mallard shot is really good.

auto mode is awesome on this camera. I just got it and didn't get used to the features yet. They are more complex than my old one so a few days I'll be a pro again. But, I used auto today for some pics and wow. Sunset pics pics of the moon.. fish and my gf. I didn't even have to use a tripod for the moon shots kinda nuts. and the sunset was on auto and not the sunset mode I didn't know they had till just now. I'll update on my flickr tonight and link it

It has a lot of modes and things I have yet to figure out. I think I will try that sports mode on flying birds tomorrow if I think of it. These pictures are all on flickr but private so I did not bother with live links. Next post maybe.

I look forward to yours hercules. Thanks for comments calicajun, Jerry and Pete.

Glad the camera arrived Steve. The new shots look impressive - I look forward to seeing more when you get used to the camera settings. (Love the Kestrel shot ).
