In my polarizer question thread I said I would make a thread called Snow Birds or something and post a shot taken with the polarizer, so I thought I had better do so before all the snow melts. (Fat chance of that happening!)

1. This shot was taken using the circular polarizer people said I should not be using. It is probably the clearest of a hundred shots. And they were taken under decent lighting and should have been most all keepers.

2. Thayer's Gull on ice. Although it looks like snow that stuff he is standing on is the top of a pile of that slushy stuff you see in the water after the waves spit it up. In some places the piles are six feet high.

3. Herring Gull hunting gobies. They fly, then go up, pose like this, spin, and go head first into a hole in the ice and come up with a goby. Kind of fun to watch.

4. I would sometimes turn off O.I.S. when panning like this with the FZ7, and will do so with this camera some bright day. But even at a low (1/250) shutter speed it worked halfway well for this shot with stabilization on. And a lot of others. I find shooting birds in flight a breeze with this camera.

5. This shot is not as tilted as it looks. If you cover the cracks in the ice and such and just look at the bird he is standing properly. Strange effect I guess.

6. A more regal pose.

7. The end. three times over. Also known as Mooning The Merganser.
