thePanasonic TZ5is indeed agreat allround camera, but the HD videomode still cannot replace a real camcorder! Video quality ist only pleasable and videosound ist so-so ...

see here (quicktime required)

The Panny FZ-18 easily beats the TZ-3 camera. I would supect that the FZ-18 will also beat the TZ-5.

Well....that's going a little TOO far. The FZ18 is not an SLR. It's definitely bigger, but no SLR.

Heck, I've seen people on the Panasonic forum over at DPReviewcomplain about the TZ3 being too big!

sorry, the FZ18 ist a fine Cam and good value for money, but i think it is nearly a SLR und much bigger as the TZ5 ...

FZ18: 11,8 x 7,5 x 8,8 cm - 407 gr

TZ5: 10,3 x 5,9 x 3,7 cm - 240 gr

The Difference in volume/thickness and weight is "significant"! Definitely another class of Camera ... the TZ5 fits in your jacket, the FZ18 needs a separate case.

and: the FZ18features NO video in HD-resolution, the TZ5 does!

Hi all I am new to the forum and I am from Greece

I have a friend who travels to Japan for holidays so I would like to know what could be the price for A Panasonic TZ5 there and what happens with the guarantee.

Finally I would like to ask if anybody know any Japanese electronics internet site that can be viewed in English to have a look.

Thanks

In germany the brand-new TZ5 only costs 325 Euro (mid of march) an will soon fall to 300 Euro. I think there is a risk to buy it in Japan,I can be wrong, but I expect warranty problems in Europe!

If HD video ist not important, buy the forerunner TZ3 - extreme low priced at the moment: 200 Euro and good quality too!

I'm planning on getting the TZ5

Would it be safe to say then that 4gb SDHC cards will be fine and larger may not be supported?

Would anyone who owns this camera be willing to post a video in wvga format? I find that more useful than the HD.

I'm curious because the one video I have seen looked overly compressed, however it could have been the lighting.

The TZ5 is an awesome camera. 10x Zoom with image stabilization is amazing. Picture quality and 720P HD video make a great camera even better.

I totally agree that the TZ5 cannot compare to the FZ18, TZ5 is very compact for its features.

Recording limit is 2GB but it means file cannot be bigger than 2GB you can certainly fit 4 2GB movies on an 8GB SD.

You can check out my own review on my blog:

http://modifierwong.tabulas.com/

FYI: it wil take up to 16GB SDHC cards.
