rummaging about in some old archives, looking for something entirely different, and came across this shottaken with my FZ20 back2006... one of those you file away, intending perhaps to do something with, and then forget you had...

Not like anything you would see here in south Louisiana. :G We are on the opposite extreme. A very nice photo. Have you gone back to take the same shot with the 40D?

i've gotten shots of this general area with the 30D, but haven't been back up there (it's a 150-mile drive) since i got the 40D. it's definitely on my list this summer, though... i think the 40D and 17-35 lens would be a great combo for this spot... :G

Great as Always.

BTW I am finally deciding to buy a 30D.
I know the 40D is superior as far as functions, but IMO the price of 650 euro (though with the pitiful 18-55F3.5-5.6) isabout the same I spent for my FZ20 more than 3years ago.

thanks, Francesco... and congrats on your choice for a new camera! i'm surprised your FZ20 cost you as much as it did... 650 euro is almost $1000 US.... surely the FZ's weren't THAT expensive??

Dear Winston

FZ20 (and 30) costed 699 Euros when they first appeared on the market.

Maybe I paid less, about 600E for the FZ20, Dec. 2005.
It's far less than 1000 US $

FRA

PS - Image Quality differences between 30D and 40D ?
But maybe this is OT here...

Francesco.,

i guess i was thinking in terms of today's exchange rate of about $1.50 US to the euro...

as far as differences in image quality between the 30D and the 40D... they're very similar, but the 40D seems to be smoother, richer, and with more depth. it "sees" 4 times as many colors per channel as the 30D, and photos seem deeper, with richer colors and smoother transitions. it also uses an upgraded image processor and improved "microlenses" on the sensor for cleaner, sharper image. hi-ISO performance is excellent, usable images to ISO1600 - or even ISO3200, if you need the extended ISO option. it also offers slightly better dynamic range response than the 30D.

also, the built-in ultra-sonic sensor cleaning feature is nice... i've had my 40D for 6 months now and haven't had to clean the sensor once!
