Hi,
I will buy a 2.0x(55mm) telephoto lens for my fz18.
is 2.0x teleconversion means, 18x2 (36x) optical zoom with fz18?
Can auto-focus work with that lens?

AF should continue to work. Tele attachments on these cameras are not like teleconverters you use with DSLR's that slow a lenses' speed down. The lens on your FZ18 will stay the same speed no matter the converter poweryou use.

If I were you I would avoid a 2X converter......get something in the area of 1.7 and your image quality will be much better......and certainly stay with what has been reported to work........the reason no one brags up the cheap 2X converters is they are not good.

Ibought a Soligor 2x High Grade teleconverter for my FZ7 last year, and it produced really bad pictures. If it was due to bad glass or to high magnification I donĀ“t know. But I returned it.

Thanks to this forum I bought an Olympus Tcon17 for my FZ18, and it works perfectly.

Do i need any adapters or tubes to fit tcon17 to my fz18?
2.0x teleconverters include required accessories for fz18. And 2x teleconverters are about $20 but tcon17 is $90+ . is it worth to buy? Do 2x cheap teleconverters provide enough image quality?

Thanks.

You do need an adapter........and what part of the 2X converters are junk , did you not understand.

This is one area where for the most part the saying, you get what you pay for is 100% correct.

Here is a great page , click on the TC link and look at the comparisons........I understand the FZ18 has a smaller lens and can work a little better with some of the smaller TC's but the ones with better quality on the FZ30 also have better quality on the FZ18......and most any other camera.

You need a Panasonic LA3 adapter to fit the teleconverter to the camera. But Genece is right. If a 2x teleconverter works good with the Panasonic FZ cameras we should have heard about it here. I tried one andis not impressed.
