Allen's Hummingbird is restricted to coastal California. It is replaced north of California by the Rufous Hummingbird, which occurs in California only as a migrant.Females are similar and males can be told apart by the green feathers on the back of the Allen's. This is a female, drying out after a bath. Taken with the Panasonic FZ18.

Thanks tcook, Daniel, Emmanuel, and Pappy, for looking and commenting. I waited a long time for an opportunity like this.
