Zoom at 864mm from the same spot at 3 megapixel.

Wait, what??????? :?

I'm not following........... this is the standard FZ28....... advertiseed with 27-496mm I think,,,,,,,,,, how the heck to you get a zoom into the 800mm range to take thois shot? I thought the max advertised was the max?

Can someone explain? You just drop the overall image size and you can increase zoom? :?

Hi Mysterious,

I'm not too technical myself, from what the the manual indicated you can have an optical zoom of 32x if you reduce your resolution to 3mp. Someone did mention it's like cropping but is it the same I don't know.

Perhaps Greg Chappell can answer your question.

When you lower the resolution to 3mp the FZ28 allows you to use digital zoom that goes up to 128X taking the lens up into the 800mm range.

see the links below for 3 examples all are of the same subject from the same distance of about 170 feet away

http://home.comcast.net/~mr.parrott/...s/P1010017.JPG 85.5x at 7mp res
http://home.comcast.net/~mr.parrott/...s/P1010016.JPG 103x at 5mp res
http://home.comcast.net/~mr.parrott/...s/P1010015.JPG 128x at 3mp res

hope this helps to answer your question

If you use 10mp the optical zoom is 18x (486mm), while the digital zoom is 72x (1944mm)

If you use 3mp the extra opttical zoom is 32.1x (866mm), while digital zoom is 128x (3456mm)

All this is hightlighted in the FZ28 manual.
