I've had my FZ30 now for a couple of years and have been very pleased with it. Last year, tempted by the 18x zoom of the FZ18, I bought one, but wasn't really pleased with it and went back to the FZ30.

Now I'm looking at the FZ28 but I'm afraid I'll miss the manual zoom ring on the lens barrel, which I really love.

Has anyone switched from the FZ30 to the FZ28? If so, what are your observations? Opinions?

Does anyone else have any ideas about the differences between these two cameras?

Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

I have been longing for the FZ30, but somehow I have not been able to get it in India, though FZ50 is available. Though FZ28 has extraordinary zoom, I don't think it is a match for FZ30 (or 50) - because of other features like the lens adjustment, hot-shoe, etc.

Raghu and Kate-

As an old time FZ-50, FZ-30, FZ-20, FZ-10user, I also felt that I needed that hot shoe too. But I went ahead and purchased the new FZ-28 and it is really a great camera. It should not be overlooked.

No, I cannot mount my Olympus FL-50 flash on it, but I did pick up a Sony Slave Flash at a swap meet and take a look at this photo sample taken at 30 feet using the FZ-28 and the Sony Slave Flash.
