I belong to both forums and see no problems with that. Dpreview is an excellent source of information, primarily because of its very high participation. The down side of it, is the attitude of many participants (although it appears to be getting a bit better lately). The tolerance level toward the inexperienced is very low. Many old-time participants prefer to spend time researching one's past participation on the forum only to bash and criticize them for their posts rather than giving their educated opinion on the subject or ignoring it altogether. So, once you are willing to deal with this type of environment, you'll certainly find answers to most of your questions.

Over here, the culture is quite different. People in general are friendly, polite and more focused on providing positive feedback rather than bashing others. One can also obtain answers to just about any question since we have a large pool of very knowledgeable members. However, because forum participation (note that I used the word participation rather than traffic because traffics hasn't been reduced that much) has dropped so drastically in the past year and a half or so, it may take longer for that answer to come in and when it does come it may be a tad too late.

There has been many discussions on various forums here at Steve's related to low forum participation but there has been no definite conclusion as to why people are not taking the time to write up a few lines, either commenting on images or providing answers to various questions posted throughout the forums. Perhaps the low participation discourages people to spend any time writing replies, who knows!?!

In the meantime, let's keep posting!
