Anyone come across information re: an FZ50 successor .... FZ60 or...?
Announcement expected pre-PMA 2009 in March? (Nothing yet on 1001noisycameras !).
Any rumors, thoughts, ideas re: main specifications?

I would imagine the introduction of the G1 made the FZ50 the last in that line.

Darn !!!! If so, that's too bad. FZ50 IMHO is a great camera for the niche it serves ... seems to me G1 is a different animal.
Have also seen a rumor to the effect that the LX3 has also been discontinued.
Could this mean that Panasonic is getting out of the high-end P & S market altogether?

I doubt the LX3 is discontinued. It's way too popular andnot that far along in its production run, and Panasonic is still producing an FZ model in the FZ28, which isn't nearly as SLR-like as the FZ50, but it's still a high-end camera with all the manual options it does offer.

Non-DSLR cameras that cost over $500 are becoming scarce, and that's what the FZ50 was. It didn't fall below that until they started clearing the stock out. I still have mine and think it's a great camera, but I have to admit to not using it much these days. I bought an FZ28, which has superior image quality than the FZ50once you hit ISO 400 and beyondand use my DSLR when I need a higher spec camera.

Not producing DSLR's anymore and with the FZ50 seemingly not being replaced, Panasonic is betting a lot on the G1, but between the FZ, LX and TZ series of cameras they still have a pretty formidable array of products to pick from in the mid to upper digicam range.
